Rebuilding Regional Resilience Training Program
The Regional Diversity Roundtable (RDR)
Course Overview
This is an online learning series designed for residents in the Peel region, offering six easy-to-follow modules, each focusing on understanding and applying Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as well as Anti-racism and Anti-oppression (ARAO), in everyday life in Canada.
Beginning with foundational knowledge of DEI, the series progresses by exploring its growing significance in Peel, addressing local demographics and challenges. It moves on to discuss how DEI matters in education, healthcare, and the workplace, highlighting sector-specific challenges and offering effective strategies. It further enhances participants’ understanding by building cross-cultural competency, crucial for effective communication in diverse environments. A critical module on understanding ‘Isms’ educates about various forms of frequently arising discrimination and microaggressions, providing tools for recognition and prevention. The series concludes by guiding volunteers on how to effectively advance DEI initiatives within their communities.
This learning series, designed to be accessible and engaging, aims to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds, including newcomers and refugees, with essential DEI knowledge and skills, aligning with RDR’s mission to reintroduce and sustain diverse volunteer participation and create an inclusive community.
